Saturn's giant, hazy moon Titan has been essential to NASA's Cassini mission during its 13 years of exploration. NASA used the Huygens probe to explore the surface of Titan, and the scientists were surprised at the geology of the moon. Titan has turned out to be a very complex world with methane rain, lakes, and dunes.

More than two and a half miles below the ocean's surface, the wreckage of the Titanic rests on the seafloor. The legend of the Titanic was larger than her size, and finding the wreck site opened a door to not only exploration and scientific study, but to salvage as well. The United States negotiated an international agreement with representatives of the United Kingdom, Canada, and France. This agreement recognizes the wreck site as a memorial to those who died and a wreck of great archaeological, historical, and cultural importance.
On January 14, 2005, the European Space Agency's “Huygens” probe made its descent to the surface of Saturn's hazy moon, Titan. Carried to Saturn by NASA's “Cassini” spacecraft, “Huygens” made the most distant landing ever on another world and the only landing on a body in the outer solar system.
As scientists delved deep into the atom, into the very heart of matter, they unraveled nature's most shocking secrets. They had to abandon everything they believed in and create a whole new science, which today underpins the whole of physics, chemistry, biology, and maybe even life itself. Tells a story of great geniuses, like Albert Einstein and Werner Heisenberg who were driven by their thirst for knowledge and glory. It's a story of false starts and conflicts, ambition, and revelation, a story which leads us through some of the most exciting and exhilarating ideas ever conceived of by the human race.
Scientists believe that Saturn, the second largest planet, would float in water if a glass were big enough. Uses computer graphics to note its features and those of its seven rings. Discusses Titan, its largest moon, and the Cassini probe, which examines it. Notes Saturn is a gas giant, has a 30-year orbit, and that astronomers create theories about this planet based on limited facts.
Highlights the limited information scientists have about the many moons in our solar system. Presents theories of origin and composition. Mixes graphics with pictures taken from spacecrafts.
In the conquest of space today, it is robots, not humans, who get the glory. Describes missions that represent the foreseeable future in space exploration: sensor-filled craft and remotely operated devices going where people can't. The program features Deep Impact, a comet-blasting probe; Cassini-Huygens, pioneer of Saturn's moon, Titan; Robonaut, a machine designed to perform human tasks; Ranger, a huge mechanical spider that could conceivably repair the Hubble Space Telescope; the Hubble itself, aging but carrying on; and the planned Webb Space Telescope, Hubble's eventual successor on the vanguard of deep-space science.
The decade saw The Great War, The Flu Epidemic and the Titanic disaster. Ten years into the 20th Century and the world is grappling with some serious growing pains. In a decade racked by conflict, there were inventions that made the world both safer and infinitely more dangerous. Featured inventions include: the parachute, the gas mask, the toaster, the Tommy Gun, and sonar.
About 59 million years ago, the largest animal lurking in the ancient forests of Colombia by far was a Titanoboa. It’s only been in the past few years that scientists have put together the many pieces of this puzzling creature, but it turns out that the greatest snake that the world ever saw was made possible by a warming planet. Part of the "Eons" series.
