Moko is an explorer. As he travels the world continent by continent, he makes many friends and discovers many natural phenomena which sometimes delight him, and other times scare him. Each animated episode recounts an adventure and takes an "original story" approach to explaining these natural phenomena. In this episode, one night, Moko misses his country filled with sun and heat. Alarick, wanting to comfort him and make him feel welcome, offers to show him a great show in the sky. Moko, who thought he had seen all of the wonders the sky had to offer in his country, sees his first northern lights. Amazed, he thinks that in this country the sky can soothe a saddened heart and that Alarick, child of the cold, has proven to be a warm and welcoming friend.

From cleaning supplies to pharmaceuticals, surfactants are the compounds that make soap bubbly, paint spread smoothly, and medication dissolve more easily. Most surfactants are currently made from non-renewable petroleum sources and many of these surfactants don’t break down easily after they are discarded. Some can persist in the environment for decades. Their widespread use and environmental persistence has raised concerns about toxicity. At the University of Arizona, Jeanne Pemberton and her cross-disciplinary team work to create new “green” surfactants based on sugars that are generally known as glycolipids. With support from the National Science Foundation, Pemberton and her team are exploring the recent discovery of a versatile synthesis that allows production of many different types of glycolipids in large quantities. Some of these glycolipids are modeled after naturally occurring biosurfactants and some can be produced relatively inexpensively using renewable natural resources. In this episode, on that morning, Moko was helping his friend and the other villagers to cut firewood to heat their homes. Snow begins to fall, and Alarick tells Moko that it would be best if they went back inside. But Moko wants to learn the secret of the snow. He heads toward the mountain. At the summit, he sees large trees bending in the wind and clouds of snow swirling around in the sky. As he makes his way back down to the village, the storm blocks his way and he can go no further. Moko begs with the mountain to let him through, promising to tell no one the mountain's secret. The storm calms and Moko returns to the village. When Alarick asks him what he has learned, Moko tells him that the mountain's secret is not one that can be revealed.
