The Science of Speed: Grip
Grip is the frictional force that holds the tires on the track, and NASCAR mechanics are always looking for ways to increase the grip of tires. The cars have less grip as their speed increases, and mechanics must understand the relationship between speed and grip to ensure the race car is able to perform safely at high rates of speed.
