    Biologist Ken Dial has documented in extraordinary detail how birds are put together and the mechanics of how they take to the air. With support from the National Science Foundation, Dial and his team at the University of Montana Flight Lab use x-rays and high speed video to better understand the mechanics of bird flight. Dial’s more than 2,000 flight hours as a pilot in a wide range of aircraft adds another dimension to his research. Perhaps, by mimicking what birds have learned over millions of years, aircraft wings could change shape to accommodate both slow and fast flight, or a helicopter propeller’s shape might be altered to be more efficient.

    The Magic School Bus is an award winning animated children’s television series based on the book series of the same title by Joanna Cole and Bruce Degen. It is notable for its use of celebrity talent and being both highly entertaining and educational. The kids rent a rainforest cocoa tree as an Earth Day present for Ms. Frizzle. But when the harvest arrives, there's only one shriveled cocoa bean and a note from Inspector 47. The note reports that the tree isn't producing beans. Ms. Frizzle takes the class to the rain forest to meet the inspector and find out why the trees aren’t producing cocoa beans.

Fascinated by the view, they don't notice the wind picking up. As the wind gets stronger it shakes their kite and Totemie lets go, and Moko lets go as well so she won't fall alone. They fall into the water in a beautiful lagoon which they discover together, their courage rewarded.

    The cochlear implant is widely considered to be the most successful neural prosthetic on the market. The implant, which helps individuals who are deaf perceive sound, translates auditory information into electrical signals that go directly to the brain, bypassing cells that don't serve this function as they should because they are damaged. Led by engineer Pamela Bhatti at the Georgia Institute of Technology, a team of researchers at both Georgia Tech and the Georgia Regents University created a new type of interface between the device and the brain that could dramatically improve the sound quality of the next generation of implants.

The human brain suffers irreversible damage if deprived of oxygen for even a few minutes-a fact Dr. Gunther von Hagens demonstrates by utilizing human cadavers as examples. Simulating an artery injury to illustrate oxygen depletion through blood loss, von Hagens then focuses on problems affecting the trachea, the top priority for ER doctors. In order to show the major structures of the airway and how they can be blocked by foreign objects, von Hagens inserts an endoscope into his own throat and saws a frozen body's throat in half, revealing the major structures of the airway and their potential weaknesses. Red Cross first-aid expert Emma Rand explains simple techniques for clearing the airway, while emergency medicine consultant Dr. John Heyworth shows how paramedics treat complex trachea damage. In this episode, the snow's thaw is drawing to a close and the mountain is shedding its white robe. Alarick and Moko are fishing in one of the mountain's springs and are catching nothing. They ask an old wise man to tell them where there might be fish. He points them towards the road to the "Ancient Mountain." They follow the road the old man told them about and reach a green luxuriant hill covered with fruit trees and streams. They think that this hill--smaller than their mountain, richer and greener--younger and simply hasn't grown up yet. Moko and Alarick explore the natural process of erosion.

Each animated episode recounts an adventure and takes an "original story" approach to explaining these natural phenomena. In this episode, Moko wonders why the moon changes shape so often. Sometimes, when he sees the moon rising in the distance like the sun, he thinks that by walking towards the horizon he could get closer and find out more. That way he could even ask the moon itself. During his long walk towards the ever-receding horizon, Moko watches the moon constantly changing shape. Sometimes it's a crescent like a smile, sometimes a disc of light; sometimes it's white, sometimes yellowish. It travels across the sky but you can't see it moving. One night, Moko decides to watch the moon perform its lovely dance among the stars. He figures he'll never reach the horizon, and in fact maybe the moon just wants to put on a show, to be watched more often.

In this episode, as they drift away from the iceberg and are throwing their fishing nets, Moko and Alarick's boat is surrounded by a thick fog. Moko thinks this is smoke and that there must be fire. He cannot even see his friend, just hears his voice telling him that a sudden fog on the ocean can last for a long time and that only patience will save them. Moko thinks that he should not have thrown his net so soon and that the ocean is blindfolding them so they won't see which way it is taking them. Gliding along, they hear some strange sounds and see bizarre shapes in the mist. Alarick begins to play his flute and the fog begins to thin. They discover a lovely bay, sheltered from the wind, ideal for fishing. Moko is filled with admiration for his friend who knew how to tame the ocean.

In this episode, Moko and Mei-Lei are gathering seashells in between the rocks on the white sand beach to decorate the village's houses. Moko asks Mei-Lei if they can go to other beaches to try to find other shells. Mei-Lei likes the idea and goes to ask a fisherman to take them to another beach on his boat. Just beyond the village Moko sees a vast plain that has been flooded with water. He thinks this must have been the great wave, flooding the field with water so that the rice would grow. This is when Mei-Lei picks up a magnificent seashell and Moko believes that it must surely be a gift from the ocean. Moko and Mei-Lei make their way back home, carrying their gift and happy to have seen wonderful new places. They are certain that the ocean must know an underground passage in which it sends waves every now and then to feed the rivers and the fields.

    Tongue taste areas The tongue is a muscular organ in the mouth of most vertebrates that manipulates food for mastication, and is used in the act of swallowing. It is of importance in the digestive system and is the primary organ of taste in the gustatory system. The tongue's upper surface (dorsum) is covered in taste buds housed in numerous lingual papillae. It is sensitive and kept moist by saliva, and is richly supplied with nerves and blood vessels. The tongue also serves as a natural means of cleaning the teeth. A major function of the tongue is the enabling of speech in humans and vocalization in other animals. The human tongue is divided into two parts, an oral part at the front and a pharyngeal part at the back. The left and right sides are also separated along most of its length by a vertical section of fibrous tissue (the lingual septum) that results in a groove, the median sulcus on the tongue's surface. There are two groups of muscles of the tongue. The four intrinsic muscles alter the shape of the tongue and are not attached to bone. The four paired extrinsic muscles change the position of the tongue and are anchored to bone. Do you have good taste?
