    Music is the art of combining sounds according to an artistic criterion and is a form of human expression. Musicians such as Richard Strauss and Arnold Schoenberg were interested in seeking new quality tone and sounds in the orchestra by adding new, nontraditional instruments. In 1909, Luigi Russolo in his "Futurist Manifesto" spoke about combining sounds from machines and non-traditional musical instruments and combining those sounds with an artistic criterion based on the imagination of the composer. But what role do technological advances play in the creative development and composition of music?

    Great inventions exist in the world of audio and music: stereo, surround sound, and holophonics, all known as 3D sounds. Although holophonics can be confused with surround sound because it tries to create a surrounding with sounds from different sources, holophonics have a completely different system and are only emitted through a stereo system, which when used with headphones and creates a sense of three-dimensionality.

Scientists are studying whether elephants can hear and interpret these ground vibrations.     Almost fifty years ago the first industrial robot was "employed" in an automobile assembly plant. Robots are regularly used for hazardous, super-heavy and difficult tasks in manufacturing, agriculture, entertainment, medicine, and space exploration. Welding robots with touch sensing and seam tracking abilities increase assembly plant efficiency, while robotic surgery results in less pain, quicker recovery and shorter hospital stays. NASAs robotic rovers Spirit and Opportunity are mapping the terrain and searching for evidence of water on Mars. Honda Motor Company's humanoid robot, ASIMO, can walk, run, recognize people and identify sounds and voices.

    Scientists have recently discovered that the California mantis shrimp can talk. Well, it’s not the same as human speech, but it is audible communication.     Water is used by everyone, and in the process, a lot of it goes to waste. Whether it goes down drains, sewers, or toilets, much of it ends up at a wastewater treatment plant where it undergoes rigorous cleaning before it flows back to the environment. The process takes time, money and a lot of energy. What if that wastewater could be turned into energy? It almost sounds too good to be true, but environmental engineer Bruce Logan is working on ways to make it happen. With support from the National Science Foundation, Logan and his team at Penn State University are taking the idea a step further. They are developing microbial fuel cells to channel the bacteria's hard work into energy.

    Moko is an explorer. As he travels the world continent by continent, he makes many friends and discovers many natural phenomena which sometimes delight him, and other times scare him. Each animated episode recounts an adventure and takes an "original story" approach to explaining these natural phenomena. In this episode, as they drift away from the iceberg and are throwing their fishing nets, Moko and Alarick's boat is surrounded by a thick fog. Moko thinks this is smoke and that there must be fire. He cannot even see his friend, just hears his voice telling him that a sudden fog on the ocean can last for a long time and that only patience will save them. Moko thinks that he should not have thrown his net so soon and that the ocean is blindfolding them so they won't see which way it is taking them. Gliding along, they hear some strange sounds and see bizarre shapes in the mist. Alarick begins to play his flute and the fog begins to thin. They discover a lovely bay, sheltered from the wind, ideal for fishing. Moko is filled with admiration for his friend who knew how to tame the ocean.
