Communication between people and cultures initially stemmed from trade and commerce. With Guttenberg's invention of the printing press, information was available to people beyond the elite and wealthy for the first time. Trade drew explorers out into the oceans, and mapmakers outlined their treacherous journeys. These basic maps are what led Columbus to believe he could reach the East by sailing west. Instead he found America, and established trade routes between America and Europe.
Timeblazers Jen and Sam travel back 63 million years before the first primitive people appeared on Earth, and they learn that people and dinosaurs never met. They jump to the Paleolithic age, when humans first appeared, to see some "cavemen," as they are often called. About 8000 BCE the first primitive civilizations began to develop after humans started farming. Then to 3100 BCE: The Egyptians. Around 750 BCE came the ancient Greek civilization; then from about 27 BCE to 476 CE came the Roman Empire. Then came the Middle Ages from 500 to about the year 1400, the Renaissance.
At Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, Christopher Williams heads the effort to further advance 3-D printing with copper, a widely used conductor in electronics. Williams is using a process called binder jetting in which an inkjet printer selectively jets glue into a bed of copper powder, layer-by-layer. The printed copper product is then taken to a furnace to fuse the particles together. With support from the National Science Foundation, Williams is addressing a major challenge in the 3-D copper printing process, which is to eliminate the porosity that develops in the part during the process. NASCAR tires are filled with nitrogen to help protect against heat caused by friction. Friction also increases the air pressure in tires, and NASCAR drivers don't want a tire to blowout during a race. The use of nitrogen helps the crew predict how hot the tires will get. Explores the strange and relatively unknown world of sleep-a world in which we spend approximately one-third of our lives. Shows how the discovery of REM (Rapid Eye Movement) during our dream period in the early 1950s by Dr. Nathaniel Kleitman at the University of Chicago brought about an understanding of the mechanism of sleep. Before his discovery, it was believed that during sleep the brain was in a state of rest. Also, overviews the nature and frequency of dreams and nightmares, and sleep disorders such as insomnia, apnea, and narcolepsy that affect millions of Americans.

Some topics they study include pressure and its impact on the behavior of fluids, Bernoulli’s and Pascal’s principles, and density and its effect on buoyancy. It has working keyboard navigation and auditory descriptions for the 'Net Force' screen when the screen reader is in 'Forms' mode. We are working on updating the content so that it can be read by the screen reader in any mode. Notes for the main interaction: Press 'Enter' or 'Spacebar' to enter a group of pullers. Once in the group, use 'Arrow' keys to choose which puller you wish to select. Press 'Enter' or 'Spacebar' to select puller and move to knot selection. Use 'Arrow' keys to choose between different knots. Press 'Escape' to leave a group of pullers or knots, 'Tab' to leave group and go to next element. This prototype has been tested with NVDA and Firefox.

The transplanting of bone tissue, known as bone grafting, typically involves allograft, which is bone from a deceased donor, or autograft, which comes from the patient's own body.
