Moko is an explorer. As he travels the world continent by continent, he makes many friends and discovers many natural phenomena which sometimes delight him, and other times scare him. Each animated episode recounts an adventure and takes an "original story" approach to explaining these natural phenomena. In this episode, Moko wonders why all the clouds come and cry over his village at the same time. What makes them so sad? He questions the wise old man of the village, who suggests that he wait till the end of the rainy season for the answer. Once the rains are over, Moko goes back to see the old man. The old man tells him that the answer lies in the fields and the crops. Moko sees that the rain has allowed so many things to grow, and that the village has all the food it needs. So he realizes that the clouds are not sad when it rains, but rather that they give all their water to fertilize the soil.

Ten thousand years ago, corn didn’t exist anywhere in the world, and until recently scientists argued vehemently about its origins. Today the crop is consumed voraciously by humans, by livestock, and as a major part of processed foods. So where did it come from? Evolutionary biologist Neil Losin tells the story of the genetic changes involved in the transformation of a wild grass called teosinte into corn. Evidence from genetics supports archeological findings pinpointing corn’s origins to a very particular time and place in Mexico.
A mutagen is any agent (physical, chemical, or biological) capable of altering the structure of DNA within human cells. This program explores how some mutations are a natural process resulting from errors in the copying and repair of DNA and how some mutagens naturally exist in the world (e.g., UV radiation, cosmic rays, and some radioactive isotopes). Others are specific chemicals that have been synthesized for use in manufacturing or other industries. Mutagens may also arise during the metabolism of certain foods. In many cases mutagens may also lead to the development of cancers.
