  • Illustration of a barren landscape with rain falling. Caption (narrator) In tropical climates, there are only two seasons:

Moko is an explorer. As he travels the world continent by continent, he makes many friends and discovers many natural phenomena which sometimes delight him, and other times scare him. Each animated episode recounts an adventure and takes an "original story" approach to explaining these natural phenomena. In this episode, Moko wonders why all the clouds come and cry over his village at the same time. What makes them so sad? He questions the wise old man of the village, who suggests that he wait till the end of the rainy season for the answer. Once the rains are over, Moko goes back to see the old man. The old man tells him that the answer lies in the fields and the crops. Moko sees that the rain has allowed so many things to grow, and that the village has all the food it needs. So he realizes that the clouds are not sad when it rains, but rather that they give all their water to fertilize the soil.

  • Tongue

Image consists of a two separate images. Image on the left is a sketch of a tongue labelling the Foliate papillae, Circumvallate papillae, Fungiform papillae and Filiform papillae. Right side image shows a closeup view of the tongue with a centimeter representing approximately 100um.

Tongue taste areas The tongue is a muscular organ in the mouth of most vertebrates that manipulates food for mastication, and is used in the act of swallowing. It is of importance in the digestive system and is the primary organ of taste in the gustatory system. The tongue's upper surface (dorsum) is covered in taste buds housed in numerous lingual papillae. It is sensitive and kept moist by saliva, and is richly supplied with nerves and blood vessels. The tongue also serves as a natural means of cleaning the teeth. A major function of the tongue is the enabling of speech in humans and vocalization in other animals. The human tongue is divided into two parts, an oral part at the front and a pharyngeal part at the back. The left and right sides are also separated along most of its length by a vertical section of fibrous tissue (the lingual septum) that results in a groove, the median sulcus on the tongue's surface. There are two groups of muscles of the tongue. The four intrinsic muscles alter the shape of the tongue and are not attached to bone. The four paired extrinsic muscles change the position of the tongue and are anchored to bone. Do you have good taste? In this video segment, Dr. Linda Bartoshuk explores the sense of taste in humans - why we have it, and what happens when we lose it. Learn why the sense of smell is also important to our experience of food. Footage from NOVA: "Mystery of the Senses: Taste".

  • Illustration of water with a circular shape outlined beneath the surface. Caption: (narrator) Blue holes are deep, underwater wells.

Moko is an explorer. As he travels the world continent by continent, he makes many friends and discovers many natural phenomena which sometimes delight him, and other times scare him. Each animated episode recounts an adventure and takes an "original story" approach to explaining these natural phenomena. In this episode, Moko wants to head off and tells Totemie that he must find the end of the world. But a fisherman tells them that no one will find what it is that they seek unless they have passed by the blue holes, or underwater cave. Moko doesn't understand but follows the path of a mysterious and immense blue hole in the middle of the ocean. This is when strange things begin happening. The sea is swirling and the sky changes color. Strange lights appear in front of their raft, then disappear. They get the impression that they are flying high above the ocean, then mysteriously they find themselves back on the beach. Moko remembers his first trip and thinks that this must be the heart of the ocean beating for his old friend.

  • Illustration of low, round huts with a person walking through them. Caption: Arriving home, Moko saw that the moon was there in the sky.

Moko is an explorer. As he travels the world continent by continent, he makes many friends and discovers many natural phenomena which sometimes delight him, and other times scare him. Each animated episode recounts an adventure and takes an "original story" approach to explaining these natural phenomena. In this episode, Moko wonders why the moon changes shape so often. Sometimes, when he sees the moon rising in the distance like the sun, he thinks that by walking towards the horizon he could get closer and find out more. That way he could even ask the moon itself. During his long walk towards the ever-receding horizon, Moko watches the moon constantly changing shape. Sometimes it's a crescent like a smile, sometimes a disc of light; sometimes it's white, sometimes yellowish. It travels across the sky but you can't see it moving. One night, Moko decides to watch the moon perform its lovely dance among the stars. He figures he'll never reach the horizon, and in fact maybe the moon just wants to put on a show, to be watched more often.
