Charles Darwin’s father wants him to be a pastor, but Darwin has a passion for science. At the encouraging of his uncle, he boards a Royal Navy ship known as the HMS Beagle. The voyage lasts for five years, and Darwin’s discoveries will revolutionize science. During the voyage, he spends most of his time on land performing methodical observations, which lead to his theories on evolution and natural selection. Part of the “Butterfly Effect” series.
The Magic School Bus is an award winning animated children’s television series based on the book series of the same title by Joanna Cole and Bruce Degen. It is notable for its use of celebrity talent and being both highly entertaining and educational. The class laughs at Phoebe when she suggests they make a butterfly into their new team mascot. In the 1950's, the Soviets decide to turn the vast desert steppes of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan into fields of cotton and wheat. They diverted some of the rivers that feed the lake to irrigate the new crops. This depleted the Aral Sea, and in 1987, the level of the water falls so low that the sea splits into two bodies of water. It splits again in 2002. In 2014, the eastern part of the Aral Sea disappears forever, which causes an ecological disaster. Part of the "Butterfly Effect" series.
What if the source codes for the Internet had remained with the U.S. military rather than being released to the world? How did civilians gain unfettered access to the Internet? Three key events contributed to the development of this modern technology: the launch of Sputnik, the United States military conducts an ambitious project, and computer scientist Tim Berners-Lee invents the web and puts the very first Internet site on line. Part of the "Butterfly Effect" series.
