Part of a series that features a wide variety of video footage, photographs, diagrams and colorful, animated graphics and labels. Begins with a simple definition of the term and concludes with a critical thinking question. For this particular video, students will focus on the term air. Part of the Science Video Vocab Series.

Parakeet talks about grocery bags and reusing them. Amanda has a collection of bags which she throws out whenever she gets bored of them. The first guest, the dog, says the llama is stealing from him and selling his things to a thrift store. The llama says she is not stealing anything but recovering and reusing the things thrown out by the dog. The fleas show a documentary on how wasteful consumption generates pollution. The celebrity guest, Al Gore, talks about the consequences of consumerism; buying new things means buying more packaging, more waste, and waste pollutes and harms the planet.
In this episode, host Joe Hanson discusses the science behind hot air balloons. He also explains the ideal gas law. Part of the "It's Okay to Be Smart" series.
Ollie and Hanna receive a lesson on breathing. Suzi, with the help of a friend, explains why all living things must breath. Part of "My Little Planet" series.
On the windswept tarmac of the former Alameda Naval Air Station, an inventive group of scientists and engineers are test-flying a kite-like tethered wing that may someday help revolutionize clean energy. Students explore the potential of wind energy and new airborne wind turbines designed to harness the stronger and more consistent winds found at higher altitudes.
Eco, the little bear, travels around the world observing human interactions with the environment. During his journey, he meets many other friends from the animal kingdom and gets a firsthand look into some of the environmental and social problems facing the planet. Eco and his friends provide ways for humans to ensure a healthy planet for the future. Part of "Eco S.O.S." series.
Shows the city of Chongqing on the Yangzte River to be one of the most industrialized and polluted areas in China. Drinking water for the local population is precarious at best. Some 360 million Chinese find themselves in similar circumstances. For those seeking political changes in the world's biggest dictatorship, these protests represent a small ray of light and hope.
Weather is the state of the atmosphere, and it refers to the day-to-day temperature and precipitation activity. The difference between air pressure, temperature, and moisture influence weather-related phenomena. Other topics covered include evaporation, relative humidity, clouds, precipitation, rain gauge, air mass, front, thunderstorm, hurricane, tornado, weather forecast, meteorologist, and satellite imagery.
The Magic School Bus is an award winning animated children’s television series based on the book series of the same title by Joanna Cole and Bruce Degen. It is notable for its use of celebrity talent and being both highly entertaining and educational. The class learns how things fly from inside Tim's model airplane. The class discovers how airplane wings and moving air affect lift and flight.
What is a thundersnow storm? Most snow storms form when warm air moves into an area in the winter and rising warm air condenses to form snow. If the warm air rises very quickly, the condensing moisture collides with existing particles in the cloud causing electrically charged areas. When a cloud has charged areas, lightning can result. The accompanying sound is why scientists call these thundersnow storms.
Aeronautics is the science of flight as well as the theory and practice of aircraft navigation. Any machine that flies through the air falls into the field of aeronautics. This includes helicopters, airplanes, as well as space vehicles such as the SpaceX Dragon and the retired NASA space shuttles. Aerodynamics is a branch of physical science which deals with the motion of air and the way that it interacts with objects in motion.
Moko is an explorer. As he travels the world continent by continent, he makes many friends and discovers many natural phenomena which sometimes delight him, and other times scare him. Each animated episode recounts an adventure and takes an "original story" approach to explaining these natural phenomena. In this episode, Moko thinks that somewhere lies a creature that blows so hard that it makes the boughs of trees quiver and creates the desert dunes. He believes that the clouds flee before the wind comes because they are afraid of the creature. He decides to go look for it. Tired after walking beneath the hot sun, a fresh, light breeze makes his rest more pleasant. However, the creature is actually the Harmattan blowing over West Africa.
Longitudinal waves carry energy through air, water, and solids. They compress and expand the medium in the same direction as the energy is transferred.
Lutetium is a chemical element with the symbol Lu and atomic number 71. It is a silvery white metal, which resists corrosion in dry air, but not in moist air.

Live-action weather footage helps students learn how they can observe the weather. Concepts and terminology discussed include: temperature, air pressure, weather systems, precipitation, and wind.
Kate McMurtry is the branch chief of operations engineering at NASA’s Armstrong Flight Research Center. Selected as chief in 2014, McMurtry is responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating the technical and administrative functions for the branch. Prior to her current position, McMurtry acted as the branch chief and deputy branch chief for two years. McMurtry started her career in 2004 as a U.S. Air Force officer working in developmental engineering at Edwards Air Force Base, California, for the Airborne Laser Program. Part of the "Women@NASA" series.
How can individuals help protect the environment? This program explores a wide variety of practical, easy-to-accomplish tasks individuals can do to make Earth a healthier place. Pollution prevention, natural resource use, and recycling are some of the key ideas highlighted.
Hurricanes are one of the most powerful and destructive forces on Earth. How do they form? The formation of a hurricane is complicated, but basically, it depends on 3 factors: warm water, moist air, and converging winds. Part of the "Danger Zone" series.
Cars use airbags. Packages use airbags. Why shouldn't eggs use airbags too? Students model NASA's airbag landing system in this activity from "Design Squad Nation." They design and build protective covers made of balloons to protect an egg dropped from a height of three feet. Their systems model the airbag landing systems used by three NASA Mars missions. The students use the engineering design process, apply a variety of science concepts, and learn about NASA's exploration of the solar system. Part of the "Design Squad Nation" series.
The decade that kicked off the 20th Century was responsible for two inventions that helped define the next 100 years. The airplane and the radio set the planet on a course to becoming truly a global village. Featured inventions include: the radio, the airplane, the disposable razor, the air conditioner, and the vacuum cleaner.
