Everyday, real-life examples demonstrate the processes of weathering and erosion. Easy-to-understand examples of weathering help students differentiate between the processes of mechanical and chemical weathering. Footage of weathering and erosion processes help students grasp how each process alters the environment. Important terminology includes: mechanical weathering, landslides, abrasion, freezing, thawing, chemical weathering, oxidation, acid rain, moving water, wind, and glaciers.

Discusses some of the biggest problems facing the environment today and how it is being abused. Provides an overview of the role of the greenhouse effect, carbon emissions, air pollution, and how the burning of the rainforest affects global warming. Explains the "carbon footprint" and outlines an experiment with acid rain. Shows how much water and unnecessary packaging material people use every day. Details how people can "refuse, reuse, and recycle," contributing to a healthier Earth.
Scorched by their proximity to the sun, Mercury and Venus are hostile worlds. One is gouged with craters from cosmic collisions, and the other is a vortex of sulfur, carbon dioxide, and acid rain. Prime examples of planets gone awry, do they serve as a warning for ominous scenarios that might someday threaten Earth? Cutting-edge computer graphics are used to show what life would be on other planets and to imagine what kind of life forms might evolve in alien atmospheres.
Organic acids, found in common foods, appear as citric acid (lemons), acetic acid (vinegar), and malic acid (apples). Also shows esterification and the formation of an ester.
Moko is an explorer. As he travels the world continent by continent, he makes many friends and discovers many natural phenomena which sometimes delight him, and other times scare him. Each animated episode recounts an adventure and takes an "original story" approach to explaining these natural phenomena. In this episode, Mei-Lei takes Moko to the rice fields. The sky is blue and Moko thinks that in this country there just aren't any clouds. Mei-Lei tells him to wait until nightfall, that the rains will dance over the village. Moko doesn't believe her, there isn't a cloud in sight! Suddenly, the sky darkens and Mei-Lei wants to return to the village, but Moko wants to know more. He climbs the hill behind the village to get a better look at the sky. The wind picks up and a great wave of rain washes everything in its wake. Moko and Mei-Lei take shelter from the monsoon behind a rock. To make the rain stop Mei-Lei starts to sing and dance. Bit by bit the rain subsides and the two friends decide to return to the village. Moko thinks that Mei-Lei's dancing was magical and had the power to stop the rain.
Moko is an explorer. As he travels the world continent by continent, he makes many friends and discovers many natural phenomena which sometimes delight him, and other times scare him. Each animated episode recounts an adventure and takes an "original story" approach to explaining these natural phenomena. In this episode, Moko wonders why all the clouds come and cry over his village at the same time. What makes them so sad? He questions the wise old man of the village, who suggests that he wait till the end of the rainy season for the answer. Once the rains are over, Moko goes back to see the old man. The old man tells him that the answer lies in the fields and the crops. Moko sees that the rain has allowed so many things to grow, and that the village has all the food it needs. So he realizes that the clouds are not sad when it rains, but rather that they give all their water to fertilize the soil.
Moko is an explorer. As he travels the world continent by continent, he makes many friends and discovers many natural phenomena which sometimes delight him, and other times scare him. Each animated episode recounts an adventure and takes an "original story" approach to explaining these natural phenomena. In this episode, the rain has just fallen and the sun is returning. A beautiful rainbow fills the horizon. Moko would like to take a few colors and bring them back to his village to offer them to a friend. He walks toward the rainbow, but the closer he gets, the more the colors disappear. Disappointed, he heads back home... and the rainbow reappears in the distance. He asks the village wise man how he could take a few colors from the rainbow and make a gift of them to a friend. The wise man tells him it would be better to ask his friend to come look at the beauty of the colors with him. After all, Moko tells himself, the rainbow is too big and doesn't want us to take its colors away. It comes to make the sky more beautiful. It just wants to be admired.
Part of the animated "Johan, the Young Scientist" series. Intrigued by the idea that wet laundry can simply dry up, Johan goes to ScienScape to learn about evaporation and condensation. Together with Moki and Ani, they must solve the puzzle of how to hold water using a toothpick.
Coral reefs are particularly sensitive to ocean acidification, which has decreased their ability to form skeletons. Ocean acidification is also causing reefs to crumble and disappear. Part of the "Coral Comeback" series.
Acids and bases are important to many chemical processes: maintaining a stable internal environment in the human body, baking a delicious cake, or determining whether a lake can support aquatic life. Reactions involving acids and bases can be described through the transfer of protons. The reactions of acids and bases, which can be monitored with indicators, can range from corrosive behavior to neutralizations that leave no acids or bases behind. To understand the controlling of pH of solutions, buffers are discussed in the laboratory and in the chemistry of the bloodstream. Part of Chemistry: Challenges and Solutions Series.
Part of the animated "Johan, the Young Scientist" series. Disbelieving that rainbows actually exist, Johan travels to ScienScape seeking clarification from Professor Hoo. Professor Hoo explains to him how rainbows are formed and helps Johan, Ani, and Moki find one that afternoon.
Deep in Southern Mexico's jungle, the Villa Luz limestone caves support an ecosystem that thrives in a highly poisonous, acidic environment. This rare type of cave is found in few spots on Earth. Geologists and biologists wear gas masks and protective outerwear to explore the caves. All life forms, from microbial colonies to spiders, fish and bats, are interdependent upon the toxic soup of water, sulphur-oxide and hydrogen monoxide for survival.
A mother and child plant a rainbow of colors in their flower garden. Based on the children's book by Lois Ehlert.
In this episode, host Dianna Cowern tackles the phenomenon of white rainbows. They are also known as spider web rainbows, and Dianna explains how these form. Part of the "Physics Girl" series.
In this chapter, other scientists from Kazakhstan will challenge the House of Science Scientists. During the challenge, the scientist answer the question does the temperature at which water or other fluids boil change according to the altitude of the geographical place? Part of the House of Science Series.
Part of a series that features a wide variety of video footage, photographs, diagrams, graphics, and labels. For this particular video, students will focus on the various layers of a tropical rainforest. The layers include the emergent layer, the canopy, the understory, the shrub layer, and the forest floor. Each layer has diverse plant and animal life. Part of the Science Video Vocab series.
The Magic School Bus is an award winning animated children’s television series based on the book series of the same title by Joanna Cole and Bruce Degen. It is notable for its use of celebrity talent and being both highly entertaining and educational. The kids rent a rainforest cocoa tree as an Earth Day present for Ms. Frizzle. But when the harvest arrives, there's only one shriveled cocoa bean and a note from Inspector 47. The note reports that the tree isn't producing beans. Ms. Frizzle takes the class to the rain forest to meet the inspector and find out why the trees aren’t producing cocoa beans.

It is notable for its use of celebrity talent and being both highly entertaining and educational. There's something dazzling in Ms. Frizzle's closet: a magical, light-powered pinball machine. To win at this game, the kids have to light up all six colors of the rainbow. Now the race is on, as the class shrinks down and zooms into the pinball machine. They will have to learn how to reflect all of the light to combine it into one beam to make their escape.
